Have you developed new yearnings so far this year? Let go of old ones?

Looking back over my blog and the posts of the past couple of years, I can see a progression. I spent a year and a half focused on myself, training to join a roller derby team. I can see how it became almost an obsession. I overcame a lot of self-doubt and fears during that time; and, though I was sidelined by injuries, the lessons that I learned were invaluable.

This year, I’ve refocused on other things. The health of my family has taken center stage; but, I’ve been working more on my drawing. It’s something that I’ve done in some form or another throughout my life, and I’ve made some bigger strides and taken chances this year.

I’d love to work on illustrating children’s books, and I’ve got the poem of a dear friend that’s been rattling around in my head for quite a while. I can envision different pieces of it…I just need to sit down and do it.

There are other things that I yearn for. Now that our kids are getting older, I long to travel and to see different parts of the world. Some days, the longing to be walking along the seashore or to be sitting in a cafe in Paris can set me to daydreaming instantly.

The best thing that derby taught me is that so many of these things are actually attainable. I just need to set my mind to them and they will come to pass.

My friends Kat & Meredith have provided a wonderful new opportunity for inspiration through August Moon. Won’t you join us?

What is August Moon?

Once in a blue moon, what would you wish for?

On 21 August 2013, we will be experiencing a “blue moon”. There are varying definitions of “blue moon”, but the one we’re working with is the third full moon of the season. Whether you’re a star gazer or not, full moons are undeniably powerful times. As we transition into the last quarter of the year, we are inviting you to join us in responding to a series of prompts designed to bring you closer to all you wanted 2013 to be. We reckon that now is the time to ask: the universe will hear you.
