We are about to enter into a gentler season i.e. Autumn/Fall if you’re in the Northern Hemisphere, Spring if you’re in the Southern Hemisphere. For me, these seasons often feel like a relief after the intensity of Summer and Winter.
How do you intend to transition into the new season?
Living in the desert southwest, we aren’t subject to the same changes in season that other parts of the world see. We get “summer” and “not-summer.”
In late August, we transition from “It’s a dry heat” and a thermometer that soars into territory north of 110 degrees, to Monsoon Season. Sudden, violent storms race across the desert floor, sending great walls of dust out in front, swallowing the city. Rain follows – sometimes – and everyone and everything stops what they are doing to savor the gift of precious moisture.
The monsoons bring a sense of relief to me. I know that life will be more active, and that there will be more to occupy my mind as well as my body. Spending the summer inside, with the air conditioner running full bore, there is less to distract me from worry. I’m less inclined to keep my body active, as the heat saps any desire for exercise.
The transition to cooler weather means that there will be things to do with the kids, busier work schedules, and more creative opportunities. There will be football and basketball to watch, book club meetings and just the chance to enjoy being outside.
I enjoy the slide into the end of the year. I look forward to renewing my commitment to taking care of myself and my family; and, I welcome what I can only hope will be a productive, creative and fulfilling season.
What is August Moon?
Once in a blue moon, what would you wish for?
On 21 August 2013, we will be experiencing a “blue moon”. There are varying definitions of “blue moon”, but the one we’re working with is the third full moon of the season. Whether you’re a star gazer or not, full moons are undeniably powerful times. As we transition into the last quarter of the year, we are inviting you to join us in responding to a series of prompts designed to bring you closer to all you wanted 2013 to be. We reckon that now is the time to ask: the universe will hear you.
