It’s become a ritual. Every Sunday morning, the boys and I stop for breakfast at the little neighborhood deli. It is run by Ben and his wife, Roza. They moved to the United States from Albania about six years ago. Ben takes the orders and runs the register, while Roza does the cooking. As often as not, Roza’s mother is in the kitchen, too. She doesn’t speak English; but, she nods and smiles as she hands over your breakfast.
In this time of corporate chains and the cookie cutter strip mall mentality in the heart of suburbia, it’s refreshing to find and support a mom and pop place bumped up right next door to THE coffee behemoth.
I’m participating in Susannah Conway’s August Break project. For the month of August, we are sharing one photo a day on our blogs, Twitter and Facebook.
