I’m jumping out of order on the list, because I ran across this while looking for something else.  It was a toss-up between this song and “I Want a Hippopotamus For Christmas.”  I don’t know why my favorite holiday songs tend toward the obnoxious, but they make me giggle and feel like a silly kid when I sing them.  Isn’t that what the holidays are for?  Most people with go with only admit to likeing more serious fare, such as “Silent Night” or “White Christmas.”  When I worked in a clothing store one Christmas, they would play Madonna’s “Santa Baby.”  I was probably the only one in the store that would sing along.

I like the original video for this song. Everything about it cracks me up…the stupid song, the goofy dancing, the fake snow, Horatio’s face when he’s singing…I laugh every time.  Without further ado, my favorite holiday song:

I REALLY don’t want to post this link; but, I made up the game, so I suppose that I had better play by the rules that I created.

This song is one that gets on my very last nerve.  It is the one song that can cause me to fly across a room for a remote, hit a radio button to change stations or otherwise react so violently that you would think I had been poked with a sharp stick.

My husband thinks that this is so amusing that if he is out and about, and this particular song comes on the radio, he will call whichever phone I am NOT at, and let it play into my voicemail.

Unfortunately, this is a song that is always included in those one hit wonders of the 80′s compilations or dredged up for 80′s nights.  Blech.

I have always had a bad habit of latching on to music that boyfriends listened to.  Thanks to a brief high school romance with a “country boy,” I listened to a lot of Rosanne Cash.

My college boyfriend loved jazz and unusual music.  He played the drums and listened to music all of the time.  One of his favorites, Level 42, is a group that I still listen to, though I can’t hear one of their songs without thinking of that boy.  He was big and loud, funny and sweet.  We were together for four years, all through college, though we should probably only have been friends.  During Christmas Break one year, my mother got tickets for us to see Level 42.  They were the opening act for Tina Turner.  We had a great time.

The day that I called my mother, to tell her that I was getting married, she was silent for a minute.  She asked me if I had talked to the college boyfriend.  I hadn’t.  He had also called her that day, to tell her that he was getting married.

So, here’s to that kind boy.  He was always good to me, and is someone who I will always think of fondly.
